Today is the first annual “Sanctity of Human Life” Day. I haven’t seen too many announcements about it but hopefully through the years, it will get more attention. In a world where the kindness message is heard loud and clear, I am confused why many women don’t show this same “kindness” to their preborn child, and instead choose abortion to end their child’s life.

If a person were to closely examine what actually happens for a child’s life to begin, the sexual contact is the easy part. The baby is a human from Day 1 by virtue of the DNA he or she will carry with them throughout their life. It is clear to see that the beginning of a baby’s life is the miraculous, handiwork of God. There is no doubt that He makes the decision to create this life. If a mother really understands what happens from Day 1, that this baby really is a human and not just a collection of cells, their choice of life would be obvious. However, so many abortion advocates don’t share this with a woman wrestling with this decision.

The other day I saw a T-shirt that summarized the feelings of many about 2020. It was the Grinch holding a mask instead of an ornament with the words “2020, Stink, Stank, Stunk” front and center.

It is undeniable that many people have suffered extreme circumstances of great loss, whether it was medically, financially, or personally. My heart goes out to each person who has dealt with the wrath of 2020. My prayer is that through it all they develop a closer bond with our Lord, Jesus Christ, who maintains His dominion over our world, and will always remain on His throne.

What about the moments of this year, where the clouds broke and the sun shone through? There are many bright sides of 2020 if we really reflect and think about it. Here are seven shining moments of a dark year from my perspective.

Watching my granddaughter learn has been very insightful. Maybe it’s because I’m Grandma and I can look at things from a different perspective than a busy Mom. In every waking moment a child learns and reacts, some are good responses and some need adjustment. Anna R. from New Jersey has some great advice to new Moms. She states, “Try to look at things through your child’s eyes when you are feeling frustrated with them. They are constantly growing and changing, and pausing to remember that they are still learning how to cope with the big world puts things into perspective.”
