Front Parking Spot - Sanctity of Human Life Day
Today is the first annual “Sanctity of Human Life” Day. I haven’t seen too many announcements about it but hopefully through the years, it will get more attention. In a world where the kindness message is heard loud and clear, I am confused why many women don’t show this same “kindness” to their preborn child, and instead choose abortion to end their child’s life.
If a person were to closely examine what actually happens for a child’s life to begin, the sexual contact is the easy part. The baby is a human from Day 1 by virtue of the DNA he or she will carry with them throughout their life. It is clear to see that the beginning of a baby’s life is the miraculous, handiwork of God. There is no doubt that He makes the decision to create this life. If a mother really understands what happens from Day 1, that this baby really is a human and not just a collection of cells, their choice of life would be obvious. However, so many abortion advocates don’t share this with a woman wrestling with this decision.
Here is an abridged weekly snapshot of human development from www.babycenter.com and this is just the first trimester!
Week 3- Baby has their full set of DNA-sex, eye color, traits are determined.
Week 4- All of the baby’s organs begin to develop.
Week 5- Baby’s body is the size of a sesame seed and the tiny heart begins to beat.
Weeks 6 and 7-Facial features, arms and legs begin to grow.
Week 8-Arms and legs have grown, along with fingers, nose and upper lip. The baby is moving all around and can suck its thumb.
Week 9- Eyes have developed and the baby can make facial expressions.
Week 10-Organs such as kidneys, intestines, brain and liver are functioning.
Week 11-Baby is almost fully formed, bones are hardening, genitals present and hiccups start to happen.
Week 12- The mother can hear the baby’s heartbeat at a prenatal check.

If you know anyone facing an unwanted or surprise pregnancy, please give her the information she needs to know about her baby’s humanity. Also, lead her to a pregnancy center where she can obtain a free ultrasound to actually see the child that God has given her to be delivered into this world.
Finally, there are so many couples desperately trying to conceive a child but can’t get pregnant. There are many organizations whose mission it is to help match women facing an unexpected pregnancy with families willing to adopt their child. A number of these groups even enable expectant mothers to engage in the selection process and help choose the adoptive parents who are willing to give her child the life it deserves. This way, both the Mom and the child win. The Mom knows she made the right choice by choosing life for her baby and the child has a loving, wonderful home to live the life that God intended.
This is true kindness!
