How to Keep Your Focus in Today’s World

It is easy to get discouraged as a Christian today. One look at the news or an article that pops into your inbox can make you feel like you are canoeing upstream, paddleless. Don't be discouraged. Know that bad things have happened throughout history, arguably worse than today. Know that Jesus is still on His throne, and He knows the end of the story. God wins every time!

To keep your focus, implement these five steps daily:

Pray- Trust Jesus through His scripture promises. Know that His perfect will and plan are aligned for your life. By seeking Him, you will find His will for you, so you can then trust Him to direct your path.

Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV)- Now to him who can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think, according to the power that works in us.

Observe- Take a walk outside and see God’s beauty in nature. Pay attention to the quietness of sunrise and the peace to the ending of the day in the sunsets. Remember that this is God’s creation, transcending all that may be happening in the world.

Psalms 19: 1 (NIV)- The heavens declare the glory of God, and the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Forgive- Don’t hold resentment or unforgiveness towards others. We have our selfish motivations. Seek to fix yourself rather than blaming others as your crutch.

Colossians 3: 13 (NIV) Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Walk- Focus on your daily journey. The steps taken will bring you to your ultimate destination of heaven. Seek to live your life daily without regrets on the path the Lord directs.

Proverbs 3: 6 (NKJV) In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

Vote- During political times, remember you are only one vote. Sharpen your realm of influence within the four walls of your home so that those who enter may see the truth. Jesus wants you to be a light for righteousness. Use your vote, but don’t be consumed if your vote isn’t the one chosen. God controls everything, even if the leaders don't seem to share your Christian principles.

Romans 12: 21 (NIV)- Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

When life seems to be heavy, living out your Christian faith, focus on these five steps. You and your family will be happier and have the peace only God can bring.
