Voice for Life

As mothers, we are fierce protectors of our children. It breaks our hearts when their feelings are hurt. We take offense to the teacher who shares criticism. We defend them to a police officer who pulls them over for a traffic violation. Sadly, some mothers also rationalize why their child should have an abortion to end an unexpected pregnancy. Today this happened outside of Planned Parenthood.

I am part of a Sidewalk Advocacy group that organizes volunteers to stand in front of Planned Parenthood. Volunteers will pray, have information for free pregnancy resources, and lovingly share affirming words of life to women contemplating abortion. While doing this today, a mother and her 23-year-old daughter pulled up. The daughter went inside, when she did the well-dressed mother came rushing over to us. She was using every four-letter word she could think of to launch attacks. She accused us of causing pregnancy confusion and that God would judge us for our actions. Her daughter went in and out of the clinic, obviously conflicted about her abortion decision.

It was clear that with the passionate anger, we had struck a nerve.  We prayed and asked the Holy Spirit to touch their hearts for life.  We had done all that God instructed us to do. He now had to do the rest.

Later, I ran into a good friend and I shared with her this troubling story. She brought up the protection mode concept and how we as Moms want to fix everything for our children. The daughter was looking for her mother to speak out for life, but she wasn’t. The mother spoke of despair, circumstances, career goals, bad relationships, and no time for a baby. This all points to reasons why women abort. They listen to the lies of what society and circumstances dictate, without thinking of God’s plans for every child.

So, Mama’s be a Voice for Life and be that same protector of the preborn. Even during an unplanned pregnancy, regardless of age or circumstances, God doesn’t make mistakes. We can’t stay silent about the child sacrifice of abortion that happens 2,363 times per day.  If it is God’s will for a woman to become pregnant, He has a plan and a purpose for that child. There is never any shame, secret, or regret in choosing life. Life is a blessing for all future generations. The impact of every life is immeasurable so be a Voice for Life each and every day.

Psalm 139 : 13-17 (NIV) For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!
