One Minute Mama - Solid Foundation
One Minute Mama – Solid Foundation
One of the most awe-inspiring moments in life is holding a newborn baby for the very first time. Seeing the perfection of this new person is simply incredible. The clean slate that comes with this baby brings not only amazement, but also great responsibility. This child has not yet been exposed to the sinful nature of people and the task of developing their foundation has begun. You and your family will begin to mold this child daily as you will do for all other children with whom God blesses you. It is the most important and rewarding job you will ever do. Here are some key principles which should become the rock in your child’s foundation.
1- A Relationship with God
Since we are created by God, each of us is wired to be in a relationship with Him. Notice, this isn’t referring to religion, but to your relationship with God. In order to grow any relationship, you must spend time together. This connection grows by prayer, bible study and embracing a church community. In spite of how people try to fill this innate need, no money or material items will ever complete this void. The only way is through an active relationship with Him. When this takes place, your heart will open to seek His will and direction in your life. It will also bring on a willingness to share this knowledge with others.
Proverbs 22:6-(NIV)- Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.”
2 - All People are Created Equal
Even though we are all different, we all have equal value and demand respect regardless of color, age, gender, background or belief. Our child’s foundation should radiate that belief along with love and kindness. This is how Jesus taught us to be. We are to show God’s love to the community of people we meet every day. This equality extends to all people groups, including every ethnicity, as well as the preborn. It is wrong for any Individual group to become exclusive in power because God made us ALL in His image. Each person’s life, young or old is orchestrated by God and is equally important. We are called to treat everyone we encounter as such.
Genesis 1: 27 (NIV) So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
3 - Golden Rule
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. This is one of the most quoted bible scriptures across all people groups. Most people don’t even know they are quoting scripture when they share it. So be sure to practice what you preach in thought, word and action. It is yet another powerful piece of a child’s foundation.
Luke 6: 31 NIV- “Do unto others as you would have them do to you.”
So, Mamas, be mindful of the foundation you create in molding your children. You only have 18 years of them being under your authority to teach them these ways. This is a small window of opportunity. Use the time wisely while shaping them, to make them a light of noble character. Our world will be a better place because of it.
Philippians 2: 3 (NIV) “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.”
