One Minute Mama – How Do You Do the Holidays?

With the passing of Thanksgiving, there is no doubt that the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season is here.  Many mamas are trying to get it all done; finish the decorating, mail the cards, get the presents…the list goes on and on.  In the midst of all of this chaos, don’t forget to set aside a little time to stop and enjoy these precious days leading up to the holidays.  The important things will get done, so nothing is accomplished by excessively worrying about them.  While you are at it, don’t compare yourself to anyone else.  Just be you. Focus on the important things like:

1.     Enjoying your family time together so you appreciate the wonder and excitement that children have this time of year.

2.     Cherish these days of having young children filling your home. This dynamic evolves from one year to the next, as your kids grow up, with every year offering its own uniqueness. You are creating life memories right now and you don’t want to get so busy that you miss them.

3.     Make some new traditions as you continue some of the old ones. Figure out what is important to you, and don’t feel obligated to do something a certain way just because they have always been done that way. Be you, be unique and try something new.  Many of those traditions will be the ones that your children carry forward.  This helps you hold onto these family memories you are building.

This holiday season, bask in the moments, not the physical gifts. The gifts are great, but at the end of the day, they are just stuff. Enjoy the people around you and the love you share with family and friends. Set aside any drama, or better yet, simply let it go. Most importantly, focus on the miracle of Jesus’ birth and the eternal gift He represents.

Merry Christmas Mama!
