Morning Prayer
Sunrise on Neptune Beach
What is a good morning prayer? Start with this:
I begin my day alone,
honoring this life,
with all its potentials and possibilities.
I begin my day with trust,
knowing we are created for loving encounter.
I begin my day with hope,
knowing the day can hold love,
kindness, forgiveness and justice.
I recall my day yesterday.
May I learn,
may I love,
may I live on.
I make room for the unexpected.
May I find wisdom and life in the unexpected.
Help me to embrace possibility,
respond graciously to disappointment and
hold tenderly those I encounter.
Help me be fully present to the day.
I pray for those whose days will be difficult.
May I support,
may I listen,
may I change
I resolve to live life in its fullness:
I will welcome the people
who’ll be part of this day.
I will greet God
in ordinary and hidden moments.
I will live the life we are living.
May I find the wisdom I need,
God be with me and all of us.
May I hear the needs of those I meet,
God be with me.
May I love the life we are given.
God be with me.

After speaking this prayer, have a listening conversation with God this morning to start your day:
Lord, how do you want me to begin this day?
What do I need to ask God to give me?
How will I make room for the unexpected and the possibilities?
Pause now and pray specifically for those whose day will be more than difficult.
Lord, help me to be fully present so I can live and love the life I have been given.
